This easy and elegant crostini recipe combines creamy ricotta, fresh fig jam, salty prosciutto, and a drizzle of honey on toasted baguette slices, perfect for entertaining or casual snacking.

Ingredients

  • Baguette or Italian bread, sliced into ½-inch thick pieces
  • Whole-milk ricotta cheese
  • Fresh fig jam (homemade or high-quality store-bought)
  • Thinly sliced prosciutto
  • Honey (light, floral such as clover or wildflower)
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fresh thyme or rosemary leaves (optional)
  • Fresh black pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Slice the baguette into ½-inch thick slices. If the bread is fresh, let it rest uncovered for 20 minutes to dry out slightly.
  3. Brush each slice lightly with extra virgin olive oil, about 1 tablespoon for the whole batch.
  4. Arrange bread slices on the baking sheet in a single layer. Toast in the oven for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and crisp.
  5. While the bread toasts, spoon ricotta into a small bowl and stir gently to loosen its texture if too firm.
  6. Once bread is toasted, let it cool for 2 minutes. Spread about 1 tablespoon of ricotta on each slice.
  7. Add a dollop (about 1 teaspoon) of fresh fig jam on top of the ricotta.
  8. Lay a thin slice of prosciutto over each crostini, folding or tearing it to fit nicely.
  9. Drizzle about half a teaspoon of honey over each crostini.
  10. Optionally, finish with a light sprinkle of fresh thyme leaves or a crack of black pepper.
  11. Serve immediately while bread is still crisp and toppings vibrant.

Notes

Toast bread twice if needed for extra crispness. Use room temperature ricotta for easier spreading. Avoid overloading toppings to maintain texture balance. Choose mild honey to complement flavors. Rotate baking sheet halfway through to toast evenly. Assemble crostini just before serving to prevent sogginess. Store toasted bread and toppings separately if preparing ahead.
