Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (600 grams) fresh seedless watermelon chunks
  • Juice of 2 large fresh limes (about 3 tablespoons/45 ml)
  • 2 cups (475 ml) cold water
  • 12 tablespoons (1530 ml) honey, agave syrup, or simple syrup (optional)
  • Ice cubes as needed
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut about 4 cups (600 grams) of seedless watermelon into cubes, removing all seeds if any remain.
  2. Place the watermelon cubes in your blender. Add 2 cups (475 ml) of cold water. Blend on high for about 1-2 minutes until smooth and pulpy.
  3. Pour the watermelon mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a large bowl or pitcher. Use the back of a spoon to press pulp and extract as much juice as possible.
  4. Stir in the juice of 2 fresh limes (about 3 tablespoons/45 ml). Taste and add 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of sweetener if desired. Mix well.
  5. Add ice cubes to a glass or pitcher to chill the agua fresca. Pour over ice and garnish with fresh mint leaves if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use ripe watermelon for best flavor. Straining the juice is recommended for a smooth texture. Fresh lime juice is essential for the zesty kick. Sweetener is optional depending on watermelon sweetness. For a lighter version, replace half the water with sparkling water before serving. Frozen watermelon chunks can be used after thawing. Add a pinch of sea salt to balance sweetness if desired.
