A quick and easy honey garlic glazed salmon recipe featuring a sweet and savory glaze with toasted sesame seeds for a nutty crunch. Perfect for weeknight dinners, this dish is both comforting and delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz / 170 g each), skin on or off
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds (black or white)
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Green onions, thinly sliced (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a small bowl, combine 3 tablespoons honey, 3 cloves minced garlic, 2 tablespoons soy sauce, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, and 1 teaspoon sesame oil. Stir well to mix all ingredients. Set aside.
  2. Toast the sesame seeds: Heat a small dry skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons sesame seeds and stir frequently until golden brown and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Season the salmon fillets: Pat the salmon dry with paper towels. Lightly season both sides with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Cook the salmon: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a teaspoon of neutral oil if desired. Place salmon fillets skin-side down if skin is on. Cook undisturbed for 4-5 minutes until the skin is crisp and the fish is opaque about halfway up the sides.
  5. Flip the salmon carefully. Pour the honey garlic glaze over the salmon fillets. Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for another 3-4 minutes, spooning the glaze over the top occasionally until the glaze thickens and coats the salmon.
  6. Finish and serve: Remove the salmon from heat once it flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through but still moist inside. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds generously on top and garnish with thinly sliced green onions if using.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure a good sear. Pat salmon dry before cooking to avoid steaming. Toast sesame seeds fresh for best flavor. Watch glaze closely to prevent burning by cooking on medium-low heat and removing pan briefly if needed. Salmon cooks quickly; avoid overcooking to keep moist. Multitask by toasting sesame seeds while salmon cooks.
