Refreshing and colorful red, white, and blue drinks perfect for summer celebrations, easy to make and customizable for all ages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup (adjust to taste)
  • 3 cups sparkling water or lemon-lime soda
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • Ice cubes or crushed ice
  • Optional: 1/2 cup vodka or gin for adult version

Instructions

  1. Rinse the strawberries and blueberries well. Hull and slice the strawberries into thin pieces.
  2. In a large pitcher or punch bowl, add the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and 6-8 fresh mint leaves. Gently muddle with a muddler or wooden spoon to release juices without crushing too much.
  3. Pour in the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup. Stir gently to combine. Adjust sweetness or tartness to taste.
  4. Fill the pitcher about halfway with ice cubes or crushed ice, then pour in the sparkling water or lemon-lime soda. Stir gently to mix without losing the fizz.
  5. For an adult version, add vodka or gin and stir carefully.
  6. Garnish with a few whole berries and mint sprigs. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use fresh berries for best flavor; frozen berries can be used in a pinch. Make simple syrup by dissolving equal parts sugar and water over low heat. Muddle gently to avoid bitterness from mint. Add sparkling water last to preserve fizz. Prepare berry and citrus mixture up to 4 hours ahead and add ice and carbonation just before serving. For a kid-friendly version, omit alcohol and substitute sparkling grape or cranberry juice.
