A quick and easy patriotic dessert featuring layers of creamy cheesecake filling, fresh strawberries, blueberries, and angel food or pound cake, perfect for Fourth of July celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces softened cream cheese (full-fat for best creaminess)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of one lemon
  • 1 cup cold heavy cream
  • 10 ounces angel food cake or yellow pound cake, cubed
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • Optional: raspberries for extra red color or texture variation

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat 16 ounces of softened cream cheese and 1 cup powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and the zest of one lemon, mixing until just combined.
  2. In a separate chilled bowl, whip 1 cup of cold heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture with a rubber spatula, maintaining a light and airy texture. Avoid overmixing to keep it fluffy.
  3. Cube about 10 ounces of angel food or pound cake into bite-sized pieces. Hull and slice 2 cups of fresh strawberries. Rinse 1 cup of blueberries and pat dry.
  4. Start with a layer of cake cubes evenly spread across the bottom of your trifle dish. Follow with a generous layer of the cheesecake filling to cover the cake.
  5. Add a layer of sliced strawberries arranged side-by-side for a neat red stripe. Repeat with another layer of cake, followed by more filling.
  6. Carefully arrange blueberries in rows to create the “blue flag” section at the top corner, then fill the rest of the top with more strawberries, creating the red stripes.
  7. Refrigerate the trifle for a minimum of 2 hours to let the flavors meld and the cheesecake filling firm up. Overnight chilling is even better for a clean, sliceable texture.

Notes

Make sure cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling. Chill the mixing bowl before whipping cream for better volume. Fold whipped cream gently to keep the filling light and airy. Drain very juicy berries to avoid soggy layers. Assemble close to serving time for freshest appearance but chill at least 2 hours for best flavor melding.
