These easy patriotic desserts combine fresh strawberries, blueberries, and creamy layers for a quick, festive treat perfect for Fourth of July celebrations. They are simple to make, visually appealing, and crowd-pleasing with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Fresh strawberries, washed and sliced
  • Fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • Vanilla yogurt or Greek yogurt (plain or lightly sweetened)
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Graham crackers or sugar cookies, crumbled or whole
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened (optional)
  • Optional garnishes: fresh mint leaves, edible stars, colored sugar

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the strawberries and blueberries thoroughly. Slice the strawberries thin enough to layer nicely but not mushy. Set aside about 1/4 cup of blueberries for garnish. (Prep time: 10 minutes)
  2. Gently toss the sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of sugar or honey. Let macerate for 10-15 minutes to release natural juices and sweetness.
  3. Whip 1 cup (240 ml) of heavy cream until soft peaks form using an electric mixer or chilled whisk. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon sugar, then whip until medium peaks form. Avoid overwhipping.
  4. Optional: Beat 4 ounces (115 g) softened cream cheese with 1/4 cup (60 ml) vanilla yogurt until smooth, then gently fold in half of the whipped cream for a richer layer.
  5. In clear glasses or bowls, layer about 2 tablespoons of crumbled graham crackers or crushed sugar cookies, followed by a spoonful of cream or cream cheese mixture, a layer of macerated strawberries, and a handful of blueberries. Repeat layers until nearly full, ending with whipped cream and a few whole blueberries on top for garnish. (Layering time: 10 minutes)
  6. Refrigerate the layered desserts for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld and layers to set.

Notes

Use chilled bowls and beaters for better whipped cream volume. Do not over-macerate strawberries to avoid mushiness. Layer gently to keep colors distinct. Desserts can be assembled a few hours ahead if covered and refrigerated. For dairy-free, substitute coconut whipped cream and dairy-free yogurt. Gluten-free cookies or almond flour crackers can replace graham crackers.
