These easy patriotic Caprese skewers with balsamic glaze are a fresh, colorful, and crowd-pleasing snack perfect for summer BBQs and parties. Featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and blueberries, they bring a festive flair with minimal effort.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pint (about 300g) cherry tomatoes, rinsed and dried
  • 8 ounces (225g) fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 20 medium-sized fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • 1 cup (150g) fresh blueberries
  • ½ cup (120ml) balsamic glaze (premade or homemade)
  • Extra virgin olive oil (optional, for drizzling)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 6-inch wooden or bamboo skewers

Instructions

  1. Rinse cherry tomatoes and blueberries, and pat dry gently. Drain mozzarella balls well and pat dry to remove excess moisture.
  2. Optional: In a bowl, toss cherry tomatoes and mozzarella balls lightly with a pinch of salt, pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil.
  3. Assemble the skewers by threading one blueberry first, then a basil leaf folded in half, followed by a mozzarella ball, another basil leaf, and finish with a cherry tomato on top. Repeat until all ingredients are used, making about 15-18 skewers.
  4. Arrange the skewers neatly on a serving platter.
  5. Drizzle the balsamic glaze over the skewers just before serving.
  6. Optional: Sprinkle flaky sea salt or fresh cracked pepper for extra flavor.

Notes

Assemble skewers without glaze up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate. Add balsamic glaze just before serving to avoid sogginess. If glaze thickens in fridge, warm gently before use. For vegan option, substitute mozzarella with plant-based cheese and use honey-free balsamic glaze. Blueberries can be swapped with blackberries, grapes, or peaches for seasonal variation.
