A quick and fun Halloween snack featuring hot dogs wrapped in crispy puff pastry with mustard or ketchup eyes. Perfect for parties and easy to make in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Hot dogs (regular or beef, preferably all-beef brand)
  • Frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed (recommend Pepperidge Farm)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Mustard or ketchup (for decorating eyes)
  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions until soft but still cold (about 30 minutes).
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheet gently on a lightly floured surface to smooth creases.
  4. Slice the pastry into thin strips about 1/2 inch wide.
  5. Wrap each hot dog by spiraling the puff pastry strips around it, leaving gaps for the mummy effect.
  6. Place wrapped hot dogs seam side down on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush the wrapped hot dogs with beaten egg wash. Optionally sprinkle garlic powder or smoked paprika.
  8. Bake for 15–20 minutes until pastry is puffed and golden brown, checking at 15 minutes to avoid burning.
  9. Remove from oven and cool on a rack for 5 minutes.
  10. Dot mustard or ketchup eyes on each mummy using a toothpick or spoon tip.

Notes

Keep puff pastry cold to prevent tearing. Don’t wrap too tightly to allow puffing. Use egg wash for golden crispiness. Tent with foil if browning too fast. Can prepare ahead by wrapping and refrigerating before baking. Avoid microwaving to keep pastry crisp. Variations include vegetarian/vegan hot dogs, adding cheese, or spicy seasoning.
