Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup (67 g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (245 g) plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ⅓ cup (67 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup (30 g) powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (100 g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons (28 g) unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar until combined.
  3. Cut softened butter into small pieces and work into dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in Greek yogurt and vanilla extract gently until just combined; dough will be thick and slightly sticky.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract; mix until creamy.
  6. Spread half of the dough evenly into the prepared pan, pressing gently.
  7. Dollop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the dough and spread with a spatula.
  8. Drop remaining dough by spoonfuls over the cream cheese layer and gently swirl layers together with a butter knife or skewer.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes until top is golden and a toothpick inserted near center comes out mostly clean.
  10. While baking, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat; stir until smooth and thickened (3-4 minutes). Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  11. Let bars cool in pan for 15 minutes, then drizzle warm brown sugar sauce evenly over the top.
  12. Allow bars to cool completely for easier slicing or enjoy warm.
  13. Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

Chill the cream cheese swirl mixture for 10 minutes before spreading if it starts to melt too much during baking. Watch the bars closely in the last 5 minutes to prevent over-browning. Use a skewer or butter knife to create distinct swirls without overmixing. Reheat brown sugar drizzle gently if it cools and stiffens.
