Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large round sourdough or artisan bread loaf (about 8–10 inches wide)
  • 2 cans (12.5 oz each) chunk chicken breast, drained
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Prepare the bread loaf: Place the round bread loaf on a cutting board. Using a serrated knife, carefully cut a circle about 2 inches from the edge of the top, about 1 inch deep. Gently lift off the top piece and set aside. Using your hands or a spoon, pull out the soft bread from the inside, leaving a 1-inch thick wall all around. Place the pulled-out bread pieces in a small bowl.
  3. Mix the dip filling: In a large mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese and soften it further until smooth. Add the drained canned chicken, buffalo wing sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  4. Add the cheeses: Fold in 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese and 3/4 cup of the cheddar cheese. Reserve the remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella and 1/4 cup cheddar for the top. If using blue cheese crumbles, fold them in now.
  5. Stuff the bread bowl: Place the hollowed-out bread loaf on the prepared baking sheet. Spoon the chicken dip mixture into the cavity, pressing it down gently to fill all gaps. The filling should come to just below the rim.
  6. Top with remaining cheese: Sprinkle the reserved mozzarella and cheddar cheeses over the top of the dip.
  7. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, check the bread bowl. If the top is getting too dark, tent the bread bowl loosely with aluminum foil.
  8. Continue baking for 5-10 more minutes, until the dip is hot all the way through and the bread is golden and crispy on the outside.
  9. Let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with sliced green onions. Place the bread bowl on a large platter and surround it with the reserved bread pieces, crackers, or vegetable sticks for dipping. Serve warm.

Notes

Don’t overstuff the bread bowl; leave about half an inch of space at the top. Use room temperature cream cheese for even mixing. Hollow the bread carefully to avoid tearing the wall. Watch the baking time and tent with foil if browning too quickly. Can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerated; add about 10 minutes to baking time.
