A warm, comforting oatmeal bowl featuring rich dark chocolate and fresh strawberries, perfect for a cozy Valentine’s Day breakfast.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup (45g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk of choice (whole, almond, or oat milk)
  • ½ cup (120ml) water
  • 2 tbsp (30g) dark chocolate chips (70% cacao preferred)
  • ½ cup (75g) fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) maple syrup or honey (optional)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp (10g) chopped nuts (walnuts or almonds, optional)

Instructions

  1. Measure and combine oats, milk, and water in a medium saucepan. Use ½ cup (45g) of rolled oats, 1 cup (240ml) of milk, and ½ cup (120ml) water. Stir gently to combine.
  2. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer. Cook for another 5 minutes, stirring every minute or so until oats are creamy but still have some bite.
  4. Stir in the dark chocolate chips. Add 2 tbsp (30g) and keep stirring until fully melted and swirled through the oats, about 1-2 minutes.
  5. Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Stir well.
  6. If desired, sweeten with 1 tbsp (15ml) maple syrup or honey. Taste first before adding.
  7. Remove from heat and spoon the oatmeal into a serving bowl. Top with sliced fresh strawberries and optional chopped nuts.
  8. Serve immediately to enjoy the warm, luscious texture.

Notes

If oatmeal gets too thick, stir in a splash of milk before serving to loosen it. Stir gently to avoid breaking down oats too much. For dairy-free or vegan versions, use plant-based milk and vegan dark chocolate chips. Fresh strawberries should be sliced just before serving to keep them juicy. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheated gently with a splash of milk.
