  • 2 cups milk or dairy-free alternative (almond or oat milk) (480ml)
  • 1/2 cup water (120ml)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup granola
  • 2 tablespoons chopped nuts (optional, pecans or almonds)
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or dairy-free yogurt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Pour 2 cups (480ml) of milk (or alternative) and 1/2 cup (120ml) water into a medium saucepan. Heat over medium until it starts to simmer gently, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Stir in 1 cup (90g) rolled oats, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Reduce heat to low.
  3. Let it simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 8-10 minutes until the oats are creamy and tender but still have a little bite.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.
  5. While oats cook, hull and slice fresh strawberries. If using yogurt, stir it to loosen its texture.
  6. Spoon the oatmeal into serving dishes. Top with sliced strawberries, a generous handful of granola, and optional chopped nuts. Add a dollop of Greek or dairy-free yogurt if desired.
  7. For an extra cozy feel, sprinkle a tiny pinch of cinnamon on top or drizzle a bit more maple syrup. Serve warm.

Notes

Use rolled oats for the best creamy texture; avoid instant oats to prevent mushiness. Stir gently and keep heat low to avoid scorching. Toast homemade granola for best flavor and crunch. Prepare toppings ahead to save time. If oatmeal thickens too much, stir in a splash of milk before serving.
